Metallurgical Fire
Four years late. It’s now one of my favorite Finnish BM albums, if not my favorite. Exceptional and emotionally rewarding music.
Favorite track: Nox.
Ippocalyptica
This is in line with the modern Finnish black metal that you know and love, but with a far stronger sense of dynamics than most of their contemporaries. I love my black metal blazing fast more often than not, but I appreciate when a band slows it down to provide a necessary respite from the whirlwind or to build tension before exploding once again. Korgonthurus knows exactly how to do this, and as a bonus, the tremolo riffing here is totally on point. One of 2020’s most-overlooked albums!
Favorite track: Syyttäjäenkeli.
Diabolus in Muzaka
Finnish black metal that pulls out all the stops with great riffs and melodies. Varied yet focused and organized songwriting, solid vocals, and good production make this the total package for black metal in 2020.
Favorite track: Yön lapsi.
After the mighty Vuohen Siunaus album, the light of darkness is seen in a new work called “Kuolleestasyntynyt” the new album continues the same line, but with an older touch.

Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass).
Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit

A Pagan black metal masterpiece.
Folk and black metal elements fuse into one extremely catchy and awe inspiring album. This band does not disappoint from all the high praise sent it's way. Abyssius Murkraken

This album is just 100/100, like so many albums from mgla. How can a band hit the spot so many times? They are incredible. Thank you for accompanying me almost daily these days :) adrianradillo
Featuring members of Noothgrush, Graves at Sea, and more, the Oakland metal band juxtapose cavernous doom with spaced-out shoegaze. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 21, 2024

Jordan Vauvert
